Dear Loft Family,
First and foremost, I hope you and your loved ones have remained safe and healthy though COVID-19 pandemic. I have missed seeing your faces, probably just as much as you’ve missed getting your hair done. I empathize with those who were negatively impacted by the effects of COVID-19.
Throughout this pandemic, your support to The Loft and Scrub Bar has been beyond appreciated. The amount of online orders received was unimaginable. Our community is strong and through this, we will only get stronger together. Because of all of you, The Loft Salon will survive this pandemic. I have worked tirelessly to develop a safe and efficient way to open our door for clients and staff members. As you all know, small businesses took the biggest hit. While there is so much uncertainty on what changes may come to the salon industry, please know my number one priority continues to be maintaining our high standards and service delivery, while protecting you.
With the new CDC requirements and Maryland State Board of Cosmetology regulations, there are many new requirements we must follow in the salon. Please understand that these new rules and regulations are to help keep clients and staff safe. Everyone’s safety is top priority, therefore there is absolutely NO leniency within our rules.
Things our clients must know!
-We will be operating by appointment only. No walk-in appointments will be allowed at this time. We kindly ask that if you arrive early to wait in your vehicle until appointment time. When your appointment time arrives enter the building, fill out your Covid-19 form, and wait outside our door for one of our staff members to begin the screening process. If you are there early you can always call the front desk to let us know in case your stylist is available to start early.
-Only the client with a scheduled appointment is permitted into the salon. No other person may accompany the client to their scheduled appointment, this includes children. If you have someone accompanying you during your appointment that cannot wait outside unfortunately you will be asked to reschedule your appointment.
-Currently, we are not accepting appointments for children under the age of 10. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Regulations we must follow restrict the number of people in our salon at one time. Once regulations are lifted, we can expand beginning to accept appointments for all ages. I know this is inconvenient, but again is for everyone’s protection.
- Before entering the building. Clients and staff will fill out a COVID-19 form and have their temperature taken. Anyone that has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will not be permitted into the salon. Clients or staff members having a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will be asked to leave and not to return the salon for a minimum of 14 days.
-Masks must be worn at all times by staff and clients. Clients may remove mask if it is required to perform a service, but must place it back on when the service is finished. We kindly ask guests to wear masks with ear straps so it will not interfere during services. We do have disposable masks available for $1, upon request.
-At this time, we are only booking appointments through July 3rd,or until regulations are lifted.
-All future appointments will be cancelled and will have to be rescheduled by the client. I have thought this over many ways, however there is no way to honor preplanned appointments after the lengthy shutdown and the new phased opening standards. We do not have enough manpower or time to call 10 week’s worth of clients to reschedule those who were booked during the shutdown. We understand that this may cause frustration, but please know we are all putting in more hours at an attempt to meet the demand. We will be temporarily opening Mondays to provide extended hours in hopes of satisfying our customer’s needs.
-We are saddened to announce that we have lost one of our senior stylists. Jenny has decided not to return to The Loft Salon upon our reopening. She is venturing off to open her own studio in her hometown of Fredericksburg, VA. We were just as shocked and sadden as some of you may be. We are all prepared to help those of her clients that want to stay at The Loft. If you have any questions as far as stylist recommendations, please reach out to us for advice. We wish Jenny all the best in her new venture.
-Unfortunately we were left with no other choice, but to raise our prices. We are not able to operate at the volume we were before and unsure if we ever will be. The COVID-19 CDC requirements have required more over head cost to us. PPE, extra hourly staff for cleaning/sanitizing, new contactless equipment, and social distancing materials. We were used to operating before with 8-10 stylist a shift to now allowing only 4-5 a shift.
What are we doing to keep our Guests and Staff safe?
-We are cutting our staff in half along with stylists working every other station to help ensure social distancing measures are followed.
-We are designating Monday’s from 10-12 for our higher risk clients only. This includes 65+ and/or those with underlining health conditions. All of our clients are important to us and we want to make sure our most vulnerable clients are taken care of.
-We have upgraded our booking system to allow online booking as another option to keep your checkout process running smooth and quickly. Appointment requests are not secured unti you receive confirmation that your appointment has been accepted or denied. This will also reduce your time in the salon and eliminate crowding at the front desk. Online booking access will begin on Monday, May 25thin the afternoon. Information on how to use online booking is on our website. Tuesday, May 26th at 10:10 a.m., we will open our phone line for appointment bookings. We ask for your patience as we open our book up. We anticipate a high volume of phone calls and emails, but will do our best to respond in a timely manner. Book your appointment online here.
-We have upgraded our registers to allow less contact when checking out. We will now offer a contactless credit card transaction. Our systems will except all major credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, NFC Cards. Do not worry, we will continue to process cash and checks as payment.
-We have added dividers along with eliminating extra seating in the salon to help ensure social distancing.
-No staff members or clients will be allowed to enter the salon until they pass our proper COVID-19 screening. This will consist of a survey filled out, taking temperatures (with a no-touch laser infrared thermometer), hands sanitized, and having a proper mask.
-We have cut our staff into 2 groups with each group working one week on and one week off. This will help keep staff separated in case someone was to come into contact with COVID-19. This will help us keep better track of who was in the salon and which staff members to quarantine without having to shut down the whole salon. We would also contact the clients who were in the salon during that time to notify them as well.
-Due to CDC regulations and MD State Board of Cosmetology requirements, we have eliminated all magazine, complimentary coffee and water coolers from the salon. We will now only offer bottled water to our guests.
-We will have sanitation stations set up around the salon. This will allow guests and staff members to have full access to hand sanitizer.
-Work areas and stations will be sanitized before and after every use. This will include wiping down of salon chairs, salon stations, shampoo bowls, dryer chairs, front desk, pens, and other areas that guest/staff may encounter.
-All staff members that have direct contact with clients will be provided with aprons that will be replaced every 2 hours or as needed with a clean one.
-Staff members must sanitize their hands in between every direct dealing with clients along with frequently throughout the day.
-All brushes, combs, clips, and tools will be sanitized after each use.
